Why should I make a Will?

There are a number of important reasons for everyone over the age of 18 to make a will:

  1. Who receives your estate?

If you die without making a Will, the intestacy rules set out who will receive your estate. If you are married, you probably think that your whole estate will pass to your husband or wife but this is not the case. The estate may be shared with other relatives.

  1. Living with someone but not married?

If you are living with a partner but are not married, the partner receives nothing unless named in a properly prepared Will.

  1. Small estate?

Even if you think your estate is modest, you do not have any say in who receives it unless you make a Will.

  1. Inheritance tax

Making a carefully prepared Will and making arrangements during your lifetime can save considerable sums.

  1. Children under 18?

Guardians should be appointed to take care of minors or there is a risk they can be taken into care.

  1. Disabled or vulnerable beneficiaries?

We can prepare a will that includes specialist trusts to protect them.
